As a photographer, I place great importance on the connections I create and how I make people feel in my company. I never take for granted the anxiety and nervousness my subjects may experience when having their photograph taken — especially those who are not in good health.

Working with North London Hospice humbles me on every visit. Shooting their impatient unit (IPU) takes a delicate touch to put patients and staff at ease when they are not feeling themselves or may be reluctant to be photographed. Establishing those connections, no matter how small, makes a profound difference.
